Always be aware of your battery life. Knowing how much battery we have left on your Macbook Pro at a quick glance is critical. To show the battery percentage as a number, hit “Command + Space Bar” and type in “Energy Saver”. Check the box at the bottom that says “Show battery status in menu bar.” You can also dim your screen when you’re not plugged in. Check the box and then slide the ”Display sleep” slider to roughly 3 minutes, so it’s not wasting battery while you’re distracted with other things. You may also want to check out the free “Battery Monitor” app in the Mac App store. This will display the overall health of your battery, since every charge cycle will theoretically cause your battery to hold less of a charge. Try using Safari instead of Chrome to further conserve power and quit any apps you aren’t actively using. Click on battery icon in your top toolbar and to view a ranked list of apps by energy drain.

1. Insert the battery into the laptop. Plug in the laptop and allow the battery to fully charge. Restart the computer.
2. Disable hibernation temporarily. In Windows XP, for example, click Start, then “Control Panel,” then “Power Options.” Select the “Hibernate” tab, then uncheck “Enable Hibernation.” Click “OK” to save the settings.
3. Change settings to discharge the battery. Click on “Control Panel,” “Performance and Maintenance,” “Power Options” and then “Power Schemes.” Make a note of the settings under the “Plugged In” and “Running on Batteries” columns so you can reset them later.
4. Set all six options to “Never” from the drop-down lists. Click “OK” to save the settings and disable power management.
5. Unplug the laptop, but do not turn it off. Run the laptop until the battery is completely discharged (the Power/Standby light will blink) and the laptop shuts down.
6. Plug the laptop back in, allow it to fully charge again, then restart the computer. Enable hibernation and enter your original performance settings in “Power Schemes.”

Tips To Prolong The Life Of Deep Cycle Lead Acid Batteries | Deep Cycle Lead Acid Battery 12v
#1) Use High Quality Batteries
So this tip probably seems obvious, but the old adage ‘You get what you pay for’ holds true for most deep cycle batteries.
Cheap off-brand batteries from China are flooding the market right now and you want to avoid using these. They generally have a much shorter lifespan compared to quality batteries that you pay a little more for upfront.
High quality flat plate batteries can last between 10-12 years. The more expensive tubular plate batteries can even last as long as 20-25 years if maintained properly.
Paying for higher quality batteries upfront that last 10-25 years may seem expensive but it actually ends up being more expensive to buy cheap batteries …then replacing them every couple years (because they die early).
If you want to save money on your battery bank don’t buy “cheap” batteries, instead get quality used batteries and recondition them back to their original condition
#2) Proactively Prevent Corrosion
Even if you use the most expensive, high-quality batteries in your battery bank, it won’t be of much use if the batteries aren’t cared for and corrosion or acid is on them.
Before you assemble all of the components of your battery bank, make sure to individually coat the terminals, wire lugs, nuts and bolts with a non-hardening sealant.
You can also apply a thin coating of petroleum jelly to the battery terminals for some extra protection.
Lastly, seal exposed wire at a terminal lug using submersible rubber splice tape or something similar.
The reason all of this has to be done before assembly is because it ensures that all of the parts are equally protected.
If you apply protective substances after you finish assembling the system, there is a good chance that dirt will get into small spaces that weren’t properly coated.
#3) Make Sure That the Battery Bank and PV Array are Correctly Sized
If you’re using a solar panel or wind power system, you should make sure that your battery bank is big enough to carry six to ten days of load.
This ensures:
You’ll always have a nice back-up supply of power.
And you’ll also be able to use your batteries a little more gently so you don’t have to consistently drain them.
#4) Fully Charge The Batteries Every Three Weeks
At the very least, make sure to fully charge your batteries every 3 weeks.
This reduces corrosion on the inside and ensures equalization.
#5) Keep Your Batteries at an Ideal Temperature
Because temperature extremes cause batteries to deteriorate much faster, it is important that you keep your batteries in a place where the temperature is relatively stable.
Aside from enclosed above-ground structures, you can also create a structure that is partially underground.
This way the temperature in the structure will remain the same no matter what the weather is like outside.
In addition, make sure that the charge controller or inverter system has a built in temperature compensation feature.
This is necessary because the charge voltage limit of a battery increases as temperature drops and decreases at temperatures increase.
#6) Don’t Install More Than Three Parallel Battery Strings
Ideally, your battery bank should only be made up of a single series of cells. The more cells that are included, the higher the chance of there being random defects. There’s also a greater chance of losing equalization, resulting in cells failing prematurely.
If you can’t stick to just a single series of cells in your battery bank, limit it to three parallel battery strings.
#7) Install a Renewable Energy System Digital Monitor
A renewable energy system monitor will help you keep track of the performance of your system (including the battery bank).
It will also help you troubleshoot any issue that comes up with your system so you can troubleshoot it before it turns into a bigger problem.
This will be particularly important if you are relying on the power from your off-grid power system and living in a remote area.
It will also help you maintain your batteries so you don’t have any surprise repairs that are costly and could have been avoided

New data suggests Tesla batteries last up to 25 years. In this episode, we’ll be diving into this data and seeing how it translates to owners.
Back in April, I shared data on Tesla battery degradation. Since then, Tesla owners have been measuring and sharing their battery degradation data – and the results have been surprising. Tesla owners who contributed to this data first drained their EV batteries down to 0%, then charged fully them to 100%. This is to get a consistent measurement on how much energy a battery can hold.
Despite the data, many people wonder why lithium-ion batteries in phones and laptops can barely hold a charge after a few years, while lithium-ion EV batteries don’t suffer the same fate. Well, according to lithium-ion battery cells studies, after 500-800 charging cycles and 100,000 to 150.000 miles a battery’s charging capacity drops to around 70%. However, most EV owners don’t typical drain their batteries to 0% or 100%. This increases the battery life significantly. Based on study estimates, owners who practice partial charging generally see degradation after 1,200-1,500 charging cycles and 350,000 miles of life.
Because study data on EV battery life is limited, the data provided by real owners, as mentioned above, is much more valuable. It is important to note, charging habits are not the only contribution factors to battery life as factors like temperature and usage patterns also play a role.
As stated, most owners don’t typically run their batteries to 0%, and by default a Tesla battery stops charging at 80%. This is to reduce battery strain.To even further reduce battery strain, Tesla may limit Fast Charging speeds. All of these factors combined are Tesla’s safeguard to help protect your vehicle, ensure you have a great experience with your luxury EV as well as allow for an expansive lifespan (unlike phone and laptop batteries).
In running some regression analysis on the user-provide data, I found that there was some high volatility. This is likely due to the factor that the data is user-reported, and it is not being measured in a controlled environment.
When Eindhoven University of Technology Systems and Control Professor, Maarten Steinbuch, looked at this data, he found that “on average the batteries have 92% remaining at 240.000 km. If the linear behavior would continue, then the ‘lifetime’ (still 80% capacity left) can be calculated as follows: 92-80 = 12% times 45,000 km = 540,000 km.”
I also looked at another studied from YouTuber and battery aficionado Jehu Garcia. He tested some early Tesla batteries and found that without use, batteries degraded at about .35% per year. Which means, after about 285 years, these batteries will be almost completely dead.
Working with the figure that batteries will retain more than 80% of their capacities for up 310,000 miles and considering that the average US drives about 13,5000 miles, on average, a Tesla battery does not need replacing for around 23 years.
The point is, by the time your Tesla battery wears out, we’ll be in a totally new world – and likely won’t even be driving ourselves anymore. In fact, Elon Musk recently stated that he thinks in 20 years we won’t even have steering wheels in cars.
So, when it comes to the lifespan of your Tesla battery, rest easy. It will likely outlast the rest of your car.
